Linnea's Piano Studio

Achieve your piano goals at any age, in your own home.

Hi! I'm Linnea, a new Knoxville-based piano teacher excited to expand my studio and build lasting skills and memories with students young and old. I'm a travelling teacher, so I can provide lessons in the comfort of your home or wherever you practice piano. My goal with teaching is to focus on concepts rather than rote memorization, building off of basic theory, technique, and sight-reading skills that can be applied to different types of music.

My email is linneajohnsenpiano@gmail.com, and you can find my business as well as more content on Facebook @linneajohnsenpiano

Fun fact about me: I love to write songs on my guitar, cook, and play sports with my friends in my free time.

As a piano teacher, I have the responsibility to
-arrive at and leave lessons on time
-deliver high-quality lessons and learning environment
-encourage practice and dedication
-respond to students’ individual needs and taste in music
-respond ASAP to any questions or concerns that are communicated

As a student, you have the responsibility to
-arrive at and leave lessons on time
-have a respectful attitude during piano lessons
-consistently practice
-keep your fingernails short
-practice on a tuned acoustic piano/full-sized 88-key keyboard
-have music/learning materials and an assignment notebook available at lessons
-purchase books and replace borrowed books that are returned damaged or lost
-come to recitals/performances
-communicate any questions or concerns and have fun!

As a parent, you have the responsibility to
-arrive at and leave lessons on time
-have a respectful attitude during piano lessons
-encourage your child to practice, if they aren’t already doing so
     -keep your piano tuned
-purchase books and replace borrowed books that are returned damaged or lost
     -bring your child to recitals/performances
     -communicate any questions or concerns

If you are sick, please let me know ahead of time and don’t come to your lesson. If you or your child is a minor (under 18), a parent/guardian or adult babysitter/sibling must be at home or in the practice location for a lesson to take place.  Also, make sure the piano and piano books are accessible and ready-to-use when I arrive for lessons.
Tuition rates are in the table below. Payments will be made by quarter at the first lesson of each quarter, and a $1/day late fee will be added to quarterly tuition for payments made after the deadline. Lessons are once a week, but tuition payments are the same regardless of how many lessons are attended during a quarter. This means that you will make a quarter long (11 week) commitment. Teaching won’t begin until the first payment is made in full.

Lesson Length

Quarter Payment

30 min

$200

45 min

$300

1 hour

$400

There are 3 quarters/year and 11 lessons/quarter, resulting in 33 lessons total. The cost per lesson is $18.18 for 30 min ($200/11), $27.27 for 45 min ($300/11), and $36.36 for 1 hr ($400/11). Payments can be made through cash, check, Paypal, or Zelle. For online payments, make sure the transaction is listed under family/friends (not business) so that no extra charges are made to your account.

Since I am a traveling teacher, a $3 per mile fee will be added to your quarterly tuition. Depending on when your lesson is scheduled, I will either be driving from the UTK campus or I-40/Gallaher View.

Music and theory books are not included in tuition. If I have a book available, students may borrow it upon request. Copyrighted material may not be copied, and books should be kept in good condition or they will have to be purchased and replaced by the borrower. Students may not write in borrowed books.
Recitals will be held once per quarter, and they are a fun way for students to showcase their amazing talents! Family and friends are invited. Recital dates and locations are TBD based on your schedule and other students.
If you know you can’t attend a lesson, please reach out to me at least two weeks in advance and we can discuss a makeup lesson. If you are sick, please let me know ahead of time so I don’t come to your lesson. Makeup lessons are not guaranteed unless I get sick or have an emergency cancellation. All makeup lessons will be held on Zoom. Last minute cancellations are unacceptable, and if you miss or cancel a lesson the quarter tuition still has to be paid in full.
Students are encouraged to complete the full year of lessons, because consistent practice and guidance are key for learning an instrument. However, if you feel the need to end lessons, you must turn in a written notice of your decision two weeks in advance. As long as you turn in the notice two weeks in advance, I will refund you $10 per lost lesson (regardless of lesson length), since a quarter is a long period of tuition commitment. For example, if you had weekly lessons on Monday and turned in a written two-week notice on Nov 28, you would receive compensation for lost lessons starting Dec 19 (after attending two more lessons) and receive $90 for the remaining 9 lessons of the winter trimester. No refunds will be given if you terminate lessons without turning in the written two-week notice. I reserve the right to terminate or deny lessons at any time for any reason.
During the school year, lesson time available varies from day to day. Since I am a full-time college student, students may have to change their lesson meeting times from quarter to quarter. Again, lessons are a quarter-long commitment, so make sure you can attend through the dates below.
